synopsis In 1933, in the fourth year of the Great depression, the bank robber John Dillinger challenges the law with his gang and is considered Public Enemy #1. J. Edgar Hoover goes to the Congress asking for financial support to the agency and assigns the Agent Melvin Purvis responsible for Chicago area. Melvin does not succeed using technology to hunt Dillinger, so Hoover orders the use of abusive means of interrogation and the agents use torture, intimidation and blackmail to achieve their purpose. Meanwhile Dillinger falls in love for Billie Frechette and Melvin and his men stakes her out trying to catch the outlaw

What that black and white movie call. Public Enemies movie. This is top Five worst movies i have ever seen! Terrible. there was no details, no going into stories about any of the characters. A person knowing nothing about the story would have no idea what is going on. The movie was two and a half hours of nothing. It could have ended seven times and you would still know the same thing you did before it kept dragging on. Could have made it a hour and a half and known the same amount. The camera work was terrible. There were two decent shooting parts but thats it. The big shoot out scene was really bad. 7 out of 10 people looked like the same character so you have no idea what is going on. They randomly bring in Baby Face and don't explain him at all. Why would he walk into a police station thats just dumb. Why did he drop his girl off when shes gets taken by the cops. Just waisted 10.50 and two and a half hours of my life a garbage.

The trailer makes this movie to be something totally better... i saw it and was dissapointed. slow and dull script. no exploration of character or melvin purvis's role. J Edgar Hoover was half black. Dear mr mann, please make another crime epic film. Ma barker movie public enemies. Public Enemies movies. Public enemies. Public enemies movie full movie. Public enemies movie ending. Public Enemies is an example of style over substance. It looks good and the numerous tommy gun shootouts are okay but that's about all you get with the film. The problem is in the story. Dillinger, played by Johnny Depp, is never explained. We learn nothing about his past. He is portrayed as a ruthless bank robber who thinks nothing of taking out cops with sprays of tommy gun fire, yet is supposed to be kind-hearted to hostages. The mythical psychopath with a heart of gold. Baloney. Depp's natural charisma is totally wasted in the film and his relationship with Marion Cotillard is not interesting. Frankly, Dillinger is a boring character. Christian Bale is Melvin Purvis who is appointed by Billy Crudup (J. Edgar Hoover) to track down Dillinger. This storyline is not interesting, as say in the Fugitive where Tommy Lee Jones and Harrison Ford play an interesting game of cat and mouse. Not in this film. Even the Hoover role is not developed. The significance of Dillinger, according to the film, is that his string of bank robberies helped in the formation of the FBI, which didn't exist previously, but the historical backdrop is not explored which could have made a good movie in itself. So we are left with multiple story lines and no details. Public Enemies is not in the same league as The Godfather or any of the Martin Scorcese films or any of the Edward G. Robinson or James Cagney gangster films. Save your money and rent an old gangster film instead. Not recommended.
